Our Yeoman, Melissa Zincke joined the USN in September 1977 as a seaman recruit; she achieved the rank of RM3 before leaving in February 1980.

Melissa joined the USNR in September 1980 and remained until September 1986. She served in Phoenix, AZ, Anacostia, Washington, D.C. and Adelphia, MD.
In 1986, Melissa went on temporary active duty, serving for several months at the Pentagon providing administrative support in a legal office. She left the USNR when her spouse accepted an assignment to Embassy Montevideo, UY.
During her spouse’s early career, Melissa worked as a:
- Family Member Hire providing administrative support in the Economics Section
- Assistant Systems Administrator in support of post classified computer system
- In the private sector for a temporary employment agency,
- A sound system company, and
- S. Department of State in the Credentialing Office at the first Summit of the Americas.
In January 1995, Melissa began her direct hire employment for the U.S. Department of State as Secretarial support to the Science Section, Mexico City, Mexico, Office management support to the Frankfurt Regional Security Engineering Office, Office management support to the Florida Regional Security Engineering Office.
In 2002, Melissa applied to and was accepted into an upward mobility program. Her chosen field was Human Resources. Melissa worked as a Human Resources Officer/Specialist from 2003 to 2015. She retired from the U.S. Department of State in January 2015.
Since retiring Melissa has been involved in community service through:
- General Federation of Women’s Clubs
- Metropolitan Ministries
- Currently the yeoman (secretary) for the Florida Naval Sailor’s Association
Melissa is married and has two adult sons.
